How does fonea handle reception opening hours and night shifts?
fonea works 24/7. You define when it acts as first responder (e.g. whenever reception does not pick up within three rings) and when as backup. At night (10 pm–7 am) fonea takes over completely, during the day it complements your reception — without the CHF 4,000–5,000/month cost of a night porter.
How good are the languages really?
fonea speaks fluent German (incl. Swiss Standard German), French, Italian, English and Spanish — near-native pronunciation thanks to state-of-the-art voice synthesis. In Zermatt, Lucerne, Geneva or Lugano the assistant switches to the caller's language automatically, even mid-conversation.
Does fonea integrate with my PMS?
Yes. fonea syncs booking requests structurally to your PMS (Mews, Apaleo, protel and others) or sends a formatted email to your reservations team. Direct booking integration is available on request — in the default configuration your team still confirms the final booking manually.
Is fonea FADP-compliant for a Swiss hotel?
Yes. All persistent guest data is hosted in Switzerland (Supabase, infrastructure in Geneva). Transient voice processing (STT, LLM, TTS) runs on European servers in Germany with DPF or SCC safeguards. The revised FADP (effective 1 September 2023) and the GDPR are fully respected. For EU guest data, the solution is additionally GDPR-compliant.
How does fonea handle seasonality?
fonea takes arbitrarily many parallel calls — during high season in January in Zermatt, in August in Interlaken, or during Art Basel. No busy tone, no queue. Seasonal rates, minimum stays and blackout dates are configured in the system.
What happens with VIP guests or emergencies?
fonea recognises defined keywords and VIP numbers and transfers immediately to the duty manager — to mobile, radio, or via SMS alert. For emergencies (medical, security), escalation is defined within seconds. Standard enquiries are captured structurally and forwarded with priority.
Will fonea irritate our regulars?
fonea introduces itself as an AI assistant (FDPIC requirement), but sounds natural and professional. Regulars who want to speak with you personally are always transferred to reception. The expectation is clear: guests prefer an immediate, competent answer over a voicemail — regulars included.
Can we switch fonea off after the season?
Yes. The contract is monthly with no minimum term. Many hotels keep fonea running year-round because the commission savings are noticeable off-season too — but that is your call.
